A French mezzo-soprano trained at the Bordeaux Conservatoire and then at the Atelier Lyrique of the Paris National Opera, Aude Extrémo is distinguished by a dense, dark and opulent timbre, and by a stage presence of rare intensity. Her art finds its fullest measure in the dramatic repertoire — Wagner, Verdi, Berlioz, Bartók — where the vocal line turns to tragedy.
Hailed as “the Carmen of her generation” at the Bordeaux National Opera under Marc Minkowski, she has since sung Fricka, Brangäne, Erda, Azucena and Judith on the stages of Paris, Marseille, Nancy, Dijon, Dortmund and Guangzhou.
